  About Bunionettes...

Bunionette or Tailor’s Bunion

Like a bunion, but on the outside of the foot just behind the 5th toe.

Cause: May be inherited or due to increased weight or activity, low arches

Symptoms: Pain and swelling of the 5th (outside) metatarsophalangeal joint. Drifting of the pinky toe towards the other toes.

Treatment: Wearing wide shoes and protective pads (orthotics) can ease the pressure, but surgery is often required to correct the bunionette formation.  The procedure used varies with your age, as well as, the amount and type of deformity.

Q: I am 52 yr old male...after exercising my lower body (cross trainer, stair master, and weights) my left ankle hurts the next day. I was diagnosed with flat foot on the left side as a child and I wear custom orthotics. However, it seems to have gotten worse over the years. What could be the cause and how can I prevent it in future?
